A lot of people made very warmly admiring comments about this brooch the first time I listed it. I've decided to give everybody not only another chance at this brooch, but an even better chance than I gave you all the first time -- because I've just taken an additional FOURTEEN DOLLARS OFF the opening bid price . (CHECK OUT the price of the opening bid -- and this is a $250.00 RETAIL PRICE brooch that would certainly fetch MUCH more than this appraised retail price if the piece were being offered as part of a traditional Art Nouveau jewelry auction. It's a smaller piece than some ivory Art Nouveau brooches that are currently available on the market (this comparative smallness of scale reflects the contemporary Edwardian-era taste for DAINTIER pieces of jewelry, of course). This brooch measures about 1-2/3" in diameter, was SOME available Art Nouveau ivory brooches measure 2" in diameter and up. (In most cases, a piece that's much larger than 2" in diameter will be a reproduction piece, not a genuine period piece.) However, it would be impossible to surpass the perfection of the carving OR the PERFECT/MINT condition of this piece of Art Nouveau jewelry. ) PLEASE check out these photos carefully because the artist managed to create a 3-D genuine DEPTH in this carving -- not merely the ILLUSION of depth (which can of course be astonishing enough in and of itself!) -- that I've rarely seen equalled (and I've NEVER seen excelled -- how could you exceed the perfection of a carving that has been realized in full 3-D?) I've listed this $250.00 (1-2/3" diameter) 100% Genuine Art Nouveau Hand-Carved Ivory "COREOPSIS " Brooch in PERFECT/MINT condition at an EVEN MORE INCREDIBLE savings . (PLEASE NOTE that I'm going to be listing a total of FIVE gorgeous pieces of Art Nouveau ivory this weekend! This is the fourth of the five pieces.) Of course, the ivory is Pre-Ban *; the brooch was carved by hand circa 1905 . Thus you could describe this pendant as being Edwardian in terms of the era, although you'd be more accurate referring to it as an Art Nouveau pendant for stylistic reasons. * = I DO by certify that I'm an American citizen & resident who's legally permitted to possess & sell ivory items. This piece of ivory is DEFINITELY Pre-Ban and fully complies with 16USC 4201-4244, The African Elephant Conservation Act. Only U.S.A. buyers may bid on this item; i.e., international buyers are prohibited from bidding on ivory goods owned/possessed by American citizen/residents. Americans may ONLY buy & sell ivory goods from each other . We're not allowed to import or export ivory goods. This COREOPSIS BROOCH (I know, the COREOPSIS flower looks an awfully lot like a DAISY , but I've been advised by an expert that COREOPSIS is the correct name for this particular flower) is a wonderfully skillful example of ivory carving . What's unusual about the carving of THIS particular brooch is that while the artist had an obvious interest in naturalistically carving the details of the living flower, once he had OBSERVED these details, he EXPRESSED them within a superimposed framework of a regular, "MUSICAL" RHYTHM . This carving has CADENCE, just like a work of music. In my opinion, this makes the style of the brooch particularly fascinating -- a genuine conversation-starter, when you're in a crowd of people with the sensitivity & education to notice this sort of detail. (Otherwise, just revel in the beauty of the piece for your own pleasure!) I did state above that this daisy brooch is in PERFECT/MINT condition -- so I hope you understand that this means that the BROOCH FINDING functions perfectly too! Although I should point out that in my opinion, the addition of the brooch finding appears to have occurred a few decades AFTER the flower was carved. I'm not sure whether the current brooch finding is a replacement for an earlier brooch backing; I STRONGLY DOUBT THAT THIS IS THE CASE , because t's no evidence whatsoever that any previous finding has been ...
