Hello, and Welcome to my auction! is a old PRIMITIVE HANDMADE SHARECROPPERS QUILT from the 1920-30's, unknowingly made in a fabulous HOUSETOP PATTERN. This is an AFRICAN AMERICAN design with LARGE PRIMITIVE STITCHES, made from pieces of OLD WORK CLOTHES and whatever these very poor people could find, for warmth and comfort. This quilt was found at an old Farmhouse, in the backwoods of Wood County, Texas. Measures 70" x 77" This is a great example of AFRICAN AMERICAN FOLK ART HISTORY. The materials used were OLD COTTONS, SUITINGS, FLANNEL AND COTTON PRINTS. The backside has a colorful old 'pansies' print in one corner, which extends to the binding. Condition of this quilt is primitive, showing much use and wear from the early years. It is very soft, shows frayed edges and wear near the top edge. The quilt has no odor and is clean. If you are looking for a very old AFRICAN AMERICAN TEXTILE, full of history and 'one of a kind' handmade quilt, this one is for YOU! What a FABULOUS QUILT! For your collection, or for a wall display, this quilt tells the story. It is sure to be a real conversation piece. You'll LOVE IT!
