Antique Primitive Yarn Winder Old estate find, I am told this is a yarn winder. Made of a lightweight wood, pine, I think, this is a free standing piece. T are four splayed legs and it stands solid and sturdy, no wobbles. On top is a fancy, hand made I think, apparatus. T is a wheel that has little saw teeth around the edge. These line up with the center horizontal post that has spiral cuts in the middle, so as the post turns, the wheel turns. T is no handle for turning, but the piece does turn easily, so I guess that is the way it works. On the front of the post are four extended arms that have small round pieces on each end which would hold the yarn. I am not sure if everything is original - I don't have any history on the piece. On two of the extended arms t are little shim pieces of wood to hold the arms tight. T is also a little damage on one side of wood that houses the saw tooth wheel (see pic). One of the end pieces is a little loose, but I think that is an easy fix. It is a great little country, primitive piece. I don't know a lot about it so I have included a lot of pictures. I don't think it comes apart anyw so it will have to be shipped in a large box. It's not heavy but the size of the box will raise the shipping price. Also available for pickup in northern NJ (07446) Measures 32" tall to the top of the yarn winder arms, 19" wide, and 27" long. Great primitive country piece, for display or to use. Thanks for looking, please email with any questions.
