Mama Cassandra (Cassie) is ready for an outing with her babies this fine spring day! Babies Abigail (Abby), Christine (Crissie) and Baby are all ready too! Mama and her babies are made of osnaburg muslin and hand and machine sewn. They were made by me and are my own design. Mama is about 34" in length. She wears a vintage child's dress that I altered to fit her. She wears pantaloons that I did not make but are hand made. Her hat is fabric from a vintage child's dress sort of scrunched up and sewn. It is pinned on with a hat pin and can be removed. Her shoes I painted on and they are accented with wonderful vintage screw-back rose earrings which I hand sewed onto her shoes. Her socks are a wonderful striped vintage kitchen towel material. Mama has seen a little roughness in her life before she met Mr. Right and had her babies. This is reflected in the patches on her body torso and her face is also a patch all hand sewen on. Her paws are needle sculpted and I sewed them together to make a semi-circle of love w she can hold her babies. She is aged with a coffee and spice mixture. Her facial features are painted on and accented with ink. Her look is pure contentment! Mama's mama put a bell around her neck to protect the birds-not that Cassie would ever do such an evil thing as attack a bird! The babies all have hand made dresses made by me. The oldest girl measures about 19" long, the middle girl measures about 17" long and baby measures about 15" long. Baby is sticking out her tongue. I made Abigail's "panties" from a hand-made pieces of cloth. Her dress is from an old quilt piece. The back of her dress is made from a vintage blouse. Crissie's dress is made from the same old kitchen towel fabric as Mama's stockings. I hand sewed a pretty piece of lace for her collar and a pretty border of lace to the bottom of the dress. Her pantaloons are aged. Baby wears a lacy white dress that I made from the same vintage child's dress as Mama's hat. (Pssssst...don't tell Mama, but she forgot to diaper baby this morning...she will find out soon enough!). All kittens have their hands sewn together so that they can each hold a mouse doll! T is a Papa, Mama, and little girl mouse. I hand made each of these from osnaburg muslin and needle sculped their noses and painted their faces. I painted on Mama's mouses and little girl's shirts and made their skirts from a wonderful fabric that has raised swiss dots and stripes. Papa's pants are made from a striped denmin. The mice's measurements are about 6", 5" and 4.5". All have button jointed arms. All dolls have a ribbon sewn to the backs of their heads for hanging except for the mice. The baby dolls do not sit well at all-must be propped if displayed sitting. The mice do not sit on their own. Mama has dried beans in her bottom and will sit with encouragement. Their bodies are accented with acrylic paints, fabric burns, and aged with a coffee and spice mixture. One of Mama's legs is slightly longer than the other and one of the girl's arms is longer than the other-I don't consider these flaws but charm that goes with folk art! This set was made by me with a lot of work and enjoyment. They are so refeshing to look at and will make you smile!
