This game board is a wonderful example of American folk art dating from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. It is typical of game boards made in New England. I don't know what kind of wood was used....it's a heavy piece. It was probably fashioned from scrap ... it is primitive, although well-thought out & constructed.T are obvious signs of wear & some separation in the construction, which would be normal for a piece of this age. The paint is original. The game squares are red & black. Each square is incised, aprx 1 1/4" each in size. The troughs for holding game pieces are about 15" x 3 1/4" & are painted burgandy. The overall size of the board is 24 1/2" x 17" & a little over 2" deep. One of the "walls" of a trough, is split ( probably from the nail that attaches it to the "frame" of the board. The backside has a few gouges & scrapes. It also has a few yellow squares painted on the back (it's old paint). The game board has a wonderful patina & character! Please e-mail with any questions....it is old & it's not perfect.....but it is a nice piece! This would be a nice addition for you collection! Shipping costs will be determined at the completion of the auction...when I have your zip code. I don't know why my listing has $9.35 for shipping cost....I can't seem to remove that... When I listed, I checked calculated & it still show that way in my preview...just so you know...it probably won't be $9.35. Sorry!
