Primitive Folk Doll If you are a lover of folk art dolls you have found the right place. Nutmeg-Originals are dolls that make you smile and tug at your heart strings. My name is Nutmeg and I am the designer of Nutmeg-Originals. Doll making is my career and I feel very fortunate to be able to live my passion. For as long as I can remember I have been sewing. Many hours have been spent with a needle and thread in my hand. Hundreds of handmade dolls have been created giving me the chance to share my love of fabric. You will find a collection of dolls, with a sweetness and whimsy, that will bring a smile to you and yours. For me the beauty of being an Artist is in the friendships I have made. The product is very personal~getting to know my customers is the fun part, that is priceless. I use Osnaburg and vintage fabrics for my dolls bodies that are put through a special aging process, stained, baked, and stained again. My dolls are stuffed with clean rags and stuffing which gives them a weighted feel just like a dolly you would find in Grandmas Attic. I have carefully hand stitched each detail to Dolls face. My dolls will make you smile and tug at your heart for sure. Thank you for looking at my art and please stop by often for I am always adding new dolls in need of a good home. Warning.......It has been said that my dolls are habit forming and you will want several for your collection. Nutmeg-Original dolls are made in the USA with lots of pride using new and old textiles. Each doll stands 18- 22 inches tall. It is not all that often that I purchase a pattern, but when I do I love giving credit to the Designer. A very special thank you to Vennas Mercantile for designing this wonderful Folk Art Uncle Sam Doll pattern. I love it so much I am going to make up several more for my collection.....yes I am going to make a doll for me to keep for a change. Folk Art Uncle Sam doll stands 22 inches tall and made in the USA with lots of Pride. This is my twist on a Vennas Pattern. I have used a vintage soft and worn pillowcase for this dolls body. When I can I love using vintage find items and giving them a new life. This vintage fabric has been stained to look and feel very old and of course stained with Nutmeg-Originals special natural stain. Uncle Sams shirt is made with a new Moda fabric boasting white polka dots on red background. I have black eyelets sewn down the front of his shirt & trousers. His suspenders are a hem from a sheet that I have folded to give more weight to. I have hand-stamped USA on them now how cute is that. His trousers are made from a blue and white ticking fabric. And do not forget to take a peek at his white socks and black shoes. Sam holds close to his heart the American Flag. Uncle Sam has a hat that is placed high on his head that is made from card stock paper. I have trimmed the hat with with U S A . Now for the face I would love to say I was born with a needle and thread in one hand and a paint brush in another. It is not all that often I paint my faces it so reminds me of yet another love of mine painting. I have used artist pencils by Prisma and brought this guy to life. I must tell you the pictures do not do this guy justice he is more precious in person and the fine details of colored pencils make him a priceless one of a kind piece of art for sure. I have given him soft brown eyes and lips in a natural tone his eyebrows & nose have been sculpted with needle and thread and I have added tones of browns to give him even more depth. His cheeks have been stained with Nutmeg I just love the color. His beard and hair have been needle felted with real sheeps wool, that is white as snow. Marketplace, Country Sampler, and the Country Register. I love to use past and present textiles in all my designs..it brings a certain charm and personality to each and every one of my dolls.
