Primitive Handcarved Puzzle Box This was made in the late 1800's as a snuff box. It was handcarved and made like a puzzle box so the little children couldn't open it. Shaped like a small coffin. One part of the top slides to the side, then you have to push the second piece of wood away from a dove tailed tab and it slides open to show the interior of box. You can't slide the first piece back until you push the second piece back into the dove tailed tab. Both pieces work separatley and I don't see how they are attached to the base unless its with 2 wooden pegs. Really a nice piece. t are some carvings in the top but I can't tell what they are. T are no other markings on the box. It measures almost 4" long by 2" wide by 1 3/4" high. It will make an interesting addition to your primitive collection.
