OK..NOT SURE EXACTLY WHAT THIS PIECE ORIGINATES FROM, BUT OBVIOUSLY A TOOL USED FOR SPLITTING WOOD OR FOOD HARVEST OF SOME KIND....WAS TOLD IT WAS NATIVE PIECE..I AM NOT REAL SURE...YOU MAKE THE CALL...BLADE IS SHARP AND FITS DIRECTLY THROUGH THE WOOD TOP AS IMAGE SHOWS..ITEM IS SHARP AND HAS BEEN WELL USED AND HAS GREAT OLD PATINA ...THE STEEL LOOKS TO BE A VERY, VERY EARLY HAND FORGED PIECE..EASILY 1800's AND BEFORE...ITEM IS APPX. 30 1/4" IN FULL LENGTH. THE HEAD IS APPX. 11 1/8" FROM TIP TO BACK...THE PIECE WAS MADE TO FIT THE HANDLE WELL..STEEL HAS A GROOVED OUT CENTER, BUT DOES NOT SHOW IN THE IMAGES TAKEN...WOOD HAS NO DAMAGE OF ANY KIND..APPEARS TO BE HICKORY..I CAN NOT FIND ANY MARKINGS ON THE STEEL...VERY UNUSUAL PIECE...ANY INFO. WELCOME !! THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!!!
