is a nice saltglazed stoneware jar. Dates from about 1840-70. This small piece stands only 5 3/4" tall (8" tall with lid). 3 1/2" base diameter to about 4 1/2" at rim. Mottled glossy grey glaze with green flecks. Hard to determine origin - could be New England or possibly Southern. The lid fits and could be original as the grey glaze on its edge matches the jar. However the lid appears to have been over fired, which fried some of its glaze and caused an in-making split. Despite the crack, lids are rearely found in any condition. Offered in fantastic condition for such an early piece. This is a good old one. Thanks for looking. CONDITION : Other than a micro flake on the rim, the jar is about perfect. Stable in-making read more
