DESCRIPTION: We are pleased to feature what is a rare find PROTOTYPE Coke bottle. It is a 2-litre glass bottle from 1973. This prototype was produced for by Coca-Cola Ltd. in Canada. The bottle stands about 13 ¾ inches tall (35 cm) and about 4 ½ inches diameter (11.4 cm) at the base. This applied color ACL bottle is marked Coca-Cola on one side and Coke in white on the other. It is also marked 2 litres and has the Canadian registrations of TRADE MARK REG. and Marque déposée . In the early 1970's Canada was going " metric " and all product containers including pop bottles were being converted to metric sizes. During this era, Coca-Cola Ltd. was also expanding their product packaging line to include glass bottles in a wide range of sizes from the traditional 6.5 fluid ounce size to the 10 fluid ounce, 16 fluid ounce, 26 fluid ounce and even a 40 fluid ounce size. (Some will recall that t were reports that the 40-ounce glass bottles were exploding when dropped or tipped over.) Thus Coca-Cola Ltd. produced glass packaging in the 500 ml. (1/2 litre), 1 litre and 1 1/2 litre sizes and such product sizes were eventually used in the marketplace. However, this 2 Coca-Cola liter glass bottle was a prototype that was never actually produced and marketed with product in it.
