This is a Prussian model 1889 cavalry Non-commissioned officer's private purchase saber for mounted troops. It is a bit lighter and smaller than the enlisted issue weapon, and is very handsome, with a finely detailed Prussian eagle on the guard, and an especially handsome and well-made grip that almost looks brown. The hilt and scabbard are nickle plated. The hilt retains essentially all of its original nickle. The scabbard retains about 80% of its nickle, with predictable wear at the drag and by the ring mounts. The ring mounts do not swivel- they are made not to move. There is also a bar for attachment to a belt hook on the reverse of the scabbard. The blade, which has the Coppel scales mark on the ricasso, is also nickled. It has been sharpened, somewhat crudely, along the edge and near the point. The very tip of the point is very slightly bent from the sharpening.Overall, the sword is 39 3/4 inches long. The blade is 32 1/4 inches, and the upper half is actually in very nice shape, aside from the sharpening, which is worse on the lower half. Payment is expected within three days of close of auction. The ONLY exceptions must be by PRIOR arrangement.
