From my personel collection comes this one of a kind item. This wonderful framed piece contains an original letter by Lt. John D. Bulkeley. The letter is written on the USS STRIBLING (DD867) letter head, when Bulkeley was in charge of this Destroyer. Upper right hand corner says USS Stribling (DD867) C/O Fleet Post Office, New York, New York and is dated March 6, 1946. The letter was sent by Bulkeley to his friend, Managing Contructor of the Elco Naval Division, Irwin Chase. It is stamped on the bottom of the letter as being recieved by Elco on March 11, 1946 and is stamped Electric Boat. Elco made the famous PT BOATS of WWII. This would be Bulkeley's ship after serving with the PT Boats. The letter talks about Chase's help in delivering a PT-41 model to Snug Harbor in time for the Boy Scout rally. He thanks Chase for the delivery case for the model and how he will not let it out of his sight for long. Bulkeley also talks about escourting a Carrier around the Atlantic and once the cold weather breaks, he will visit Chase at the Bayonne, River. Also included in this framed piece is a wonderful and original 8x10 Elco Photo of Bulkeley's PT-41. The framed piece measures 15 x 24 and is one of the most rare and hard to find items you will ever come across. This was Bulkeley's early Destroyer and the letter is one of a kind.
