I recently sold on ebay the door knob set from our front door and now I am listing the door knob set that was on the back door of our beach cottage in Nags Head, North Carolina. The cottage was built in 1953 and this door knob set was on the cottage when it was purchased in 1955. The cottage has been in our family since that time. How it got from New York City to Nags Head is something we will never know, but I do know that it is very old and was just removed this past summer when we replaced the doors on our cottage. The door knobs are brass, are oval shaped and measure approximately 2" x 2 1/2". The plates measure approximately 2 1/2" x 8" and are brass. At one time I think one of these plates may have been painted white, but my husband removed the paint. T may be a little reside of the paint, but I think it would polish nicely. Both ends of the door knob are included and the lettering and scroll work are very nice. The locking mechanism is included, but it is rusted. The key is not included. The knobs and plates are quite heavy and have some tarnish and discoloration as might be expected from being exposed to high humidity all these years.
