This auction is for one pure Lake Superior copper ingot from the Caledonia Mine in Michigan. The picture shows two ingots just so you can see a side view. You will only receive one from this picture. 1/4 pound of copper = 2 1/2 inches long, 3/4 inch wide, 5/8 inch high. Copper ingot is hand polished on top side. This would make a great paper weight and conservation piece. Lake Superior Copper from The Caledonia Mine is environmentally sound and offers no problems for the visitor. T are no sulfides or environmntally difficult minerals in this copper. The term "native" as used by mining men is synonymous with "pure", "unadulterated" or "virgin". Keweenaw copper was found in a state of such purity that a piece brought from underground could immediately be beaten into pots and pans without smelting or refining. The 1.1 billion year old Keweenaw Peninsula had the largest deposits of native copper in the world, and produced over 13 billion pounds of copper and 16 million ounces of silver since 1845, extracted through 11,000 miles of underground tunnels and workings.
