This is a specimen of light metallic-yellow Electrum. Electrum is a natural alloy of Gold and Silver. The two elements combine together in the Earth's furnace. Some ancient civilizations collected Electrum and made coins from it. The first coin money was made in Lydia in 600 BC; they used Electrum. Electrum had advantages--It was more durable than Gold alone, and the refinement of Gold had not been perfected at the time so it was easier to use a naturally occurring alloy. This is a pure Electrum nugget with no matrix. It is 1.3cm by 1.5cm by 1.1cm. It is mounted to a 1.25 inch square acrylic base. The specimen (without the display) weighs 5.1 grams. This Electrum is from Hornitos, Mariposa County , California , USA . Insurance is included in the Packaging & Handling. I combine shipping with other purchases or auction wins.
