A 5 5/8" tall rectangular-shaped beautiful deep PURPLE AMETHYST colored antique ROSE TALCUM POWDER BOTTLE put out by the OWL DRUG CO. This is a very early hand B lown I nto M old bottle ( BIM ) with a GROUND top, dating it way back to the late 1800's.Bottle embossed with a picture of an owl perched on a druggists' mortar, stirring a pestle. The mortar is embossed with, " TODCO / TRADE MARK ". TODCO = T he O wl D rug CO .Condition : This is just a great looking old Owl Drug bottle. It has some stain and wear, two or three small impact flashes, just enough to give it that old rustic look, the look of a bottle that has withstood over a century of time! The condition is consistent with its age, just a classic bottle with a rugged and weathered ancient look. This is especially important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are rough estimates.This bottle originally came packed with Rose Talcum Powder, and had a brass shaker top on it, for gently sifting out the powder. The cap has rusted out years ago and all that is left to seal it is a cork in the top. This is a rarely seen old owl drug bottle as they just didn't make many of them and talcum powder wasn't something that was called for that often, compared to the many medicines that went in the common cork top bottles you see. Since it was a talcum powder bottle, a cosmetic product, the base was designed quite ornately so that the bottle had eye appeal as it may of sat out on a woman's dresser. Then there is the beautiful purple color ... you hear about old glass turning purple in the sunlight ... The beautiful purple amethyst color of this bottle is the result of being made with manganese in the glass, a mineral that was pulverized and added to vats of molten liquid glass that acted as a decolorizing agent to turn the naturally aqua-tinted glass into a pure crystal clear colorless glass. Then later, exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or other sources of UV rays, triggers a chemical reaction and the manganese oxidizes and turns a wonderful amethyst color. With few exceptions, only glass made before 1914 will turn purple. Not only does this deep purple/amethyst color make this a great looking bottle, but it also authenticates it as being truly antique , making this a grand example of an Owl Drug Co. bottle, check it out!Terms of Sale : Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction.
