Depicted in this image is the city of Cairo on the Nile, with the pyramids at Giza in the foreground. The desert and mountains stretch into the right quadrant of the image, with a hot air balloon flying above. Locations and landmarks are clearly labeled, as are various routes taken through the desert, such as Bonaparte's journey in 1799."The Graphic" was a British weekly illustrated newspaper, first published on 4 December 1869 by William Luson Thomas's company Illustrated Newspapers Limited. The influence of "The Graphic" within the art world was immense, its many admirers included Vincent Van Gogh, and Hubert von Herkomer.
