Pyrite Ammonites on Rainbow Pyrite Concretion Size: 3.03" x 2.7" x 2.58" 77mm x 69mm x 65mm Weight: 7.2 ounces 205 grams Location: Volga River, Russia Pyrite Ammonites on Rainbow Pyrite Concretion from the Volga River in Russia. Features 2 Pyrite replaced Ammonites mounted upon a Pyrite concretion. The Ammonites are Quenstedtoceras Ammonites from the Jurassic Period. They measure 48mm x 42mm (1.91" x 1.67") and 21mm x 15mm (.82" x .6"). The Pyrite is a concretion from Russia, featuring natural golden to iridescent coloration. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine animals. The last of its surviving lines disappeared with the dinosaurs 65 million years ago, although these Ammonites are much older. As it grew, it added newer and larger chambers to the open end of the spiral. Only the last and largest chamber was occupied by the living animal at any given moment.
