FINE PYRITIZED STARFISHFurcaster paleozoicusDevonianHunsrück Slate, Bundenbach, Germany12.79 x 5.31 x 0.19 inches (32.5 x 13.5 x 0.5 cm) Solnhofen, Messel, Holzmaden, Bundenbach - all great localities for marine fossils in Germany well known by collectors and admirers of vertebrates and invertebrates alike. While the matrix rock can range from a light tan to dark black, the specimen from Bundenbach does exhibit the graphite color associated with the specific locality. The focus of this irregularly shape piece is the elegant "brittle" Starfish as its centerpiece that has been pyritized whereby the mineral Pyrite has replaced the soft tissue of the sea creature in an appealing metallic gold. The fossil virtually appears to be in motion. Grade: 0, Service: Other, Service No.: 0
