Qing Dynasty Chinese Kesi Silk Medallion Imperial Five Clawed Dragon
Up for sale today in a wonderful Qing Dynasty Chinese Kesi Silk Medallion. The silk medallion features an imperial five clawed dragon done in Kesi embroidery with gold metalic tread. The dragon surrounded by a multicolor boarder. I have found this form to be called a medallion, roundel, and rank badge. In the past ten years several of these silk medallions have been sold at auction. The most recent being at Capitol Auction January 25, 2014. This example sold for 950$. It had a more decorative background and was slightly larger. (15 inch diameter).
