This is a very beautiful antique 19th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty robe. The design features Eight dragons made from gold metallic thread on the red silk robe. Around the bottom of the robe, the multicolored design beautifully depicts a peaceful countryside with lotus blossoms and other flowers that must have had great significance to the original robe owner. This rare garment is covered in gold metallic threading, with many small metallic mirrors framed in what appears to be brass sown onto the red silk. This has such fine stitching and workmanship throughout that it must have belonged to a very important person. Notice the collar design of exquisite flowers outlined with the gold metallic thread. The eight dragons show as three large dragons in a triangular design on the front and back. One dragon is centered at the chest level on the front and back, with two set to either side below the hip. The front and back are symmetrical. Two more dragons adorn each sleeve. The embroidery is very fine workmanship, very high quality. Notice the striping, and the different items: Bats, Waves, Clouds, and Jewels can be seen throughout the design. The mirrors appear as if the dragons are chasing dancing, flaming jewels. This is a delightfully fun robe of the very finest quality, worthy of your collection. This comes from my personal collection to yours. Bust aprox. 36". Gets wider under the bust. Length from the shoulder: aprox. 36" There is some minor unraveling of the gold thread commensurate with the age. Please see pictures for details. (Picture no 10 for unraveling. Detail of the left front sleeve).
