This is one of the best early PERIOD Candlestands to be on ebay in a long time. A period Transitional William and Mary - Early Queen Anne Cherry Candlestand from the NORWICH, CT area, Circa 1730-1750!!! This great stand exhibits the early drop below the deeply turned shaft which is indicative of an early transitional stand or table. This is the typical trumpet turning you would see on a William and Mary Highboy. The shape of the sawn legs and pad feet are also of the early period. The legs are blind dovetailed into the shaft a feature that was replaced in the Queen Anne period. The two board top is all original. T are no breaks in the legs, feet or shaft and they are all original. The top is chamfered on it's edge and is slightly out of round being 18" by 18 1/2", exactly what you wand to see. The only thing that has been done to this stand is that in the 19th century it appears that the two board top started to separate so the owners, (certainly not a professional) applied small braces on the underneath to keep the top from separating any more, two of which are still t I did not remove them as they are invisible from view. That and an early 20th century refinish, but the stand still displays a deep dark cherry color. The stand is 26 1/2" tall and like I stated the top is about 18" across. This is a period candlestand of great quality and importance. The condition is very, very good and the form and shape are the best. The turnings are deep and fully developed and the bottom drop is one of the best. Typical wear associated with the age of the item. Low starting Price and NO reserve.
