Quezal solid green lily shade, signed. Quezal solid green lily shade, signed. You are bidding on ONE shade, shown on the left in the photo showing two nearly identical examples. Winning bidder has the option of purchasing the second shade, which is a fraction taller and slightly lighter in color, for the same price as the winning bid. The shade is 4 1/2 inches tall and 2 3/4" wide at the mouth, signed upside down on the exterior of the fitter portion. Unlike some Quezal lily shades which have oversized fitters, these are the same size as the fitter on a Tiffany lily shade. This solid green lily shade with 10 prominent ribs is early Quezal at their best, perhaps the only time you'll find a solid green shade that makes you grateful it wasn't given a decoration with another color. Each rib, which twists slightly at the bottom, lights a pronounced green, with the lighter panels between the ribs lighting a greenish gold. The heavier glass of each rib also produces a scalloped effect at the mouth, with a gold lining on the inside. The lining is only highly iridized w the mouth flares open, as the throat of these shades was too narrow for the metallic chloride spray to penetrate. The shade shown is in perfect condition, with no chips or signs of use, but t are tiny pinpoints (the size of a pen point) of wear to the gold lining at the very tip of a few of the ribs, probably from the shades being displayed on a glass shelf (this isn't noticeable unless you look very closely, holding the shades carefully to catch the light, but is described for accuracy). T are no signs these shades were ever used, as they lack the usual marks around the lily fitter from the brass clasps. The engraved signatures are colored gold. The second shade has the beginnings of an extra "Q" which the engraver decided to abandon and started the signature over again slightly to the right of his first attempt. This minute oddity is the only way I can tell them apart. Again, repeated for clarity, you are bidding on only ONE shade, with the option of buying the second if you are the winning bidder.
