QUILT Hamptons Style from Steve Kane Quilts and Folk Art "STRAIGHT FURROW" Variation "LOG CABIN" Quilt Shown pictured on a KING Size bed, King / Double size: approx. 78 inches by 80 inches. All Cottons. Made in Quakertown, PENNSYLVANIA in the 1940's. Unused Condition. The illusion of plowed fields is created in this "STRAIGHT FURROW" version of the "LOG CABIN" pattern quilt. The variety of variously printed fabrics are organized in a Light vs. Dark juxtaposition featuring generally red, white and blue tones. The bold diagonals formed lead the eye from corner to corner of the pattern. The rectangular "logs" surround a white pin dot on red center square which is the symbolic chimney piece of the cabin. The LOG CABIN is an important element in the American psyche. Initally it housed the first homesteaders and by the 1840's became a political concept and rallying point for westward expansion. This 1940's version STRAIGHT FURROW was made in Quakertown, Pennsylvania using cotton "feedsack" printed fabrics, which were extremely popular in the 1920's and 1930's, and were associated with the kind of thrift and resource management that characterized the first settlers (and their Log Cabin quilts.) T is a wide Blue Floral on White Border around the central composition which also serves as the Binding. The Backing is a Blue background
