Quirijn or Quiringh Gerritsz van Brekelenkam (1622/29, Zwammerdam – 1669/79, Leiden [ 1] ), was a Dutch Baroque genre painter. He probably studied under Gerard Dou , and as a result his paintings from the 1640s and 1650s are similar to those of the Leiden fijnschilders . This oil painting on oak has been appraised by the late Frank Boos,of the Boos Gallery. The painting belonged to Herbert Olivecrona (1891 - 1980), the pioneer of neuro surgery in Europe. Professor Olivecrona served on the committee for the Nobel Prize for Medicine for 9 years during his lifetime. The picture was given as a gift from his collegues on his 50th birthday. The painting is uncleaned. Please submit any inquiries or questions as necessary. There are a few slight chips in the frame but the picture is in excellent condition but unsigned. The Painting APPRAISED AT 8000.00 to 10000.00 in 2003 by Boos Gallery. Ringling Museum in Sarasota Florida made a request during appraisal to have it donated to display; which was declined by the owner.
