Item Description - For your consideration an original and signed Christmas card (6" x 4 ") from Maurice R. Bebb. This is the FIRST one of twenty cards (1952 - 1975) we had of Bebb's series of "bird cards" as he called them. The bird description and MR BEBB '52 is in Bebb's handwriting. This print is from an estate of a northern Minnesota family that the Bebb's met while spending their summers in Minnesota. Bebb, an accomplished color etcher, had virually no formal art training and was self-taught as a printmaker. Following his study at the University of Illinois, Bebb moved to Muskogee, Oklahoma where he was a florist for many years. He made his first print around 1943, relying on various printmaking technical manuals and his own study of original print for instruction. Eventually he befriended Charles Capps and Arthur Hall, both of whom gave him advice and encouragement. Most of Bebb's images featured birds or flowers, often those he observed in OK or in MN where he spent his summers. Bebb's memberships included Prairie Print Makers and Print Makers of California. We will be putting up for auction various original Bebb Christmas cards from the years 1952 thru 1975. All of the prints are of wildlife and all are spectacular in their composition and detail. All of these prints are one of a kind pieces of art from a master printmaker. Good luck bidding.
