Up for sale today is an authentic Royal Canadian Air Force leather flying helmet and goggles from the Second World War. I purchased these pieces recently at an estate auction w they were listed incorrectly as First World War items. The helmet shows signs of wear consistent with its age and history. That being said, it is still in very good overall condition. T is one small hole (see photos) near the top left but it only penetrates the outer leather skin. The inside of the helmet is clean but shows some signs of wear. Note the black stamps in the photographs including one with the distinctive arrow surrounded by a capital "C" which was used by the Canadian armed forces as an identifying mark at the time. I do not understand the meaning of the other two stamps. One may simply specify that the size is medium. The black material under these stamps is not dirt or mold it is thread. The goggles have an incised inscription on the strap which reads: R.C.A.F. No. 22C/ followed by two or three indecipherable letters or numbers. Under this inscription it states: CCB 1940. The goggles are not in as good condition as the helmet but they can probably be restored without too much difficulty. Note the split in the connecting material at the bridge of the nose. Also, the strap is only held in place on the right side by a safety pin. The metal buckle is still t but the connecting leather piece is missing. Once again, a fairly simple restoration in the right hands. The lenses, which have a yellowish tinge, are in good condition. They appear to be made of plastic. Screws that hold the metal lens guard in place are also missing. All in all, an increasingly rare find as the Second World War fades further into history. I can provide additional photos upon request if required. Shipping costs will be determined by the buyer's location. Unless you specify otherwise and are willing to pay the increased costs, I will simply mail the pieces to you at the most economical rate. I will provide full insurance coverage. Please do not bid in this auction if you lack the ability to pay for your purchase. Good luck in bidding on these rare military aviation artifacts. Thank you.
