J.R. Hamil limited edition watercolor, Signed Number 24/1500 Ice skating scene Picture is in great shape Wooden frame, a few scuffs on the frame Plexiglass front Nice size, OverallSize is 28 1/4 x 21 Noted Kansas City Artist graduated from the University of Kansas in 1958 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree. After graduation he worked for Hallmark Cards from 1958 until 1973. In 1973 he began his career as a freelance artist and has been devoted to painting for commissions, shows and exhibitions, publications, and other artwork related activities. During his career, Jim has published over 50 limited edition prints. Many of these prints are found in homes across the country and illustrate the beauty of Kansas , Missouri , Colorado , and the Caribbean . Jim's dealer is the American Legacy Gallery, but he is also represented by galleries across the Midwest and elsewhere. In addition to painting, Jim conducts workshops and demonstrations, creates artwork for a variety of publications, and is involved in many charities. In 2003, Jim was named Best Local Artist by Kansas City Magazine, received the Pinnacle Award for Excellence in the Arts, and was featured in the Best Times newspaper. In 1990, Governor Hayden of Kansas named Jim 'Governor's Artists'. He was honored as the recipient of the American Royal Western Artist of the Year award and the Kansas Governor's Arts Award as visual artist of the year. Throughout his career, Jim creates commissioned work for many businesses and organizations such as UPS , Kansas City Board of Trade, and the National Park Service. Other works have been created for the cities of Overland Park , Leawood, and Prairie Village , Kansas . Many of his works are represented in the corporate collections of AT&T, Bank of America, DuPont, Sprint, Farmland Industries, and the NCAA. He was honored to meet former President Dwight Eisenhower and spent an afternoon with the former President discussing and demonstrating watercolor painting. Jim was later asked to do the Eisenhower Christmas card showing the living room of their Gettysburg home featuring a fireplace mantle from the White House and other items given to General and Mrs. Eisenhower by world leaders in thanks for their dedication to world peace. He participates in both on-site and traveling exhibits for a variety of watercolor society shows and the American Royal Art shows, and is involved in many art shows through the Midwest . Jim has been featured artist for the Riverbend Show, is represented by two works in their local Muchnic Gallery, and was a part of a group show at the Albrecht-Kemper Gallery in St. Joseph , Missouri . Jim has served on juries for regional and national shows such as the Atchison River Bend Show and the KC Museum Heritage Show. Along with his prints and exhibits, Jim has also been involved in publications. Among the books and articles published are Farmland USA , Return to Kansas , and "Bringing Life to Your Skies" Artist's Magazine. His illustrations have appeared in many other publications including Colorado without Mountains, Nebraska, There's No Place Like It, KC Star magazine, Homes and Gardens Magazine, the KC Journal magazine, Omaha National Bank Annual Report (which won the gold award), Charter Banks Annual Report (a history of Missouri which won the Omni award). Throughout his career, Jim has been commissioned by many not-for-profit groups to create art to be used to raise funds for organizations including KU and K-State Alumni Association, the Shawnee Mission Indian Mission, Johnson County Arts Council, the Gillis Home, and several schools in the Kansas City area. read more
