This is one of the late Lloyd Atkins favorite designs for Steuben glass and first produced in the mid 1970's. Mr.Atkins creative genius resulted in some of the most marvelous Steuben animals. This graceful glass sculpture has no chips, no cracks, no dings, no scuffs and no scratches on the base or body. It is mint condition and my idea of what Steuben glass is capable of creating. This is a larger sculpture, not a hand cooler, measuring approx 5+" tall. This Gander will come nestled in his grey Steuben flannel bag. The Gander is hand formed from a single molten gather of hot glass. I have set a fair starting bid well below Steuben's retail price for this sculpture that is in superb condition and no hidden reserve. I am also auctioning its companion the Steuben Preening Goose (also in mint condition) a few minutes apart, so if you are interested in it's mate you will have time to bid. Steuben Glass is the premier American glass company founded by Frederick Carder in 1903. It ranks with Baccarat, Lalique, Daum, Orrefors and Tiffany as one of the worlds foremost artisan glass houses. Steuben glass continues to be hand made by American craftsmen at the works in Corning NY. Because it is hand made, each piece is unique. Steuben glass is frequently the United States' gift of State to foreign dignitaries. Steuben markets no "seconds". Items that do not meet their exacting production standards are destroyed by being smashed in a bin. Steuben is a luxury brand and they never have "sales."
