you are bidding on a picture which has been blown up to a size of 27 3/4 inches wide by 20 inches high of the Radio City Music Hall Rocketts which was taken in 1937. This picture was one of my grandfather's prized posessions. On the left of the picture (photo) I am quoting what it says. This is the first time that they have been photographed in natural color for the News.It says that they have NEVER appeared anyw except the Music Hall but this picture was taken at their appearance at the Paris Exposition at the request of the French government to dance for 16 minutes at the exposition. The troupe dates back to 1925 when Russell Markert introduced 16 precision dancers on the stage of the Missouri Theatre in St. Louis. It also says that more than 38,000,000 have seen the Rocketts perform and that 3,000,000 are expected to watch them at the 6 month period of the World's Fair . On the right hand bottom of the picture it gives some more facts about the dancers. Although t are only 36 dancers on stage at one time t are actually 46 in the troupe. 10 are always on vacation. A Rockette works for 3 weeks and has 1 week off with full pay. Each averages $ 50.00 a week (imagine living on that!) They also range in height from 5 feet 3 on the ends of the line of dancers to 5 feet 6 in the middle to give an illusion of all being the same height. read more
