This is a rarely available 1939 FW Elliott RAF British wall clock. Sector clocks were used during the battle of Brittan to plot British aircraft and are known as the clocks that won the battle of Brittan. I've received many messages in the less than 4 hours this item has been listed so I'm updating the listing. I am not an expert on clocks and I'm describing this item to the best of my ability. I cannot verify the original nature of this item's parts, components, dial, bezel, face, etc. Due to the fact that it was purchased at a local auction I have no history on the item. Please buy this item for whatever you think it is. It could be a command center clock, mess clock that has been modified, etc. I've reduced the price to encourage bidding. The clockworks are marked 6160 / Made By / FW Elliott / 1939 which should make this a first year of production for Elliott of London. I think there are a few more letters in the stamping but it is hard to make them out in places. The entire piece measures 7 inches deep x 18 inches across. The dial / face is 14 inches across. The bezel is heavy cast brass. The wood case has the signature bottom and side doors. The case may have been refinished. This item weighs over 20 pounds. We do not have the key to the bottom door lock. There are 2 of the original 4 wood pins which are in good working order with an additional broken one and one is missing completely. This is a minor functional problem as the two pieces that have survived are working fine and additional pegs could be easily made. We do not have the winding key. The face has imperfections such as scratching below the wind up key hole, and there are many spots on the face with either cracking or peeling paint. They are not serious looking and do not detract from the piece but are signs of the age. Some (but not all) examples would include: At the red triangle above the 9, just below and to the right of the 23, and in the purple triangle to the left of the 12. The front glass hinge is a little loose and there is a mark on the wood where it has closed slightly low bumping the wood for the past 70 years. There are little bumps in the brass bezel from moving impact dings over the years. The pendulum appears to have a broken extension piece which I've shown in the photos, but it looks like a piece that is removable and should be easy to replace. Overall this is a great display piece and is a great piece of history. These clocks can be found in museums and these pieces of history are dissapearing. It is an excellent gift for the collector of World War Two historical items in your life. Since we are not familiar with clocks we have another 20-30 photos available so just send us your email address if you want to see them. We are happy to answer any questions. This item is sold "as is" or "as found" since we are not experienced with these clocks. Since we have no key the item has not been tested since our purchase of the item, please purchase for a price you feel is reasonable given the unknown functionality. This piece was owned by a high level military or intelligence official based on the other items at the local auction where it was purchased. There were items which were rare and historical in nature in the same lot of product. There were few of these clocks made and their significance in the defense of the English against the Nazi war machine cannot be overstated. During the days when radar was only being tested for use of sector clocks were critical in coordination of air defenses against Luftwaffe air raids, timing of bombing missions, etc. The buyer will be responsible for any VAT or customs charges, however I'm hoping that since this item was made in London you might catch a break on those charges, I have no idea how import charges work in England. The seller reserves the right to ship in 2 pieces of that is required to provide safe and economical packaging. This item must ship via Priority Mail due to the weight and value but may be changed to any freight method you...
