Here we have a Mark 2 RAF Sector clock from 1942, the item is in original condition throughout although I have had the wood re-polished. The clock runs for a few hours and then stops but re-starts if it is shaken gently. Until very recently it kept excellent time and I do not anticipate that there is much of a problem. The case bezel is made from a very heavy and good quality mahogany (sometimes inferior woods and even plywood were used) marked Smiths 1942 and GR VI, the movement has a crown and AM impressed in the brass. Early fusee Sector and Dial clocks were made by Elliott and SM&C and are of a very high quality, the Mark II clocks are the same 14 inch dial diameter but have a smaller back box and a Smiths Astral movement (these were used extensively by the government and military in WWII and can also be found in ships bulkhead clocks etc). The dial artwork is identical to the fusee clocks. The original dial is still perfectly readable and I prefer it to the many over restored examples that one sees, however if you wish to display the clock looking a little more pristine I have included what I believe to be an original dial in much better condition, I have had this many years, it came from a clock with a wrecked case and it is in very good condition although it has a few marks and stains as can be seen in the picture.
