Up for auction is a RAIL CRAFT LEHIGH VALLEY 31 ft. 55 ton 2 bay USRA rebuilt rib side hopper car. I am saying it is a Rail Craft hopper but I am just guessing and have found my guesses are usually incorrect. I know someone will either correct or verify my guess. But here is what I do know about this car. It is in overall very good condition with the exception of a stirrup step that is falling off that I have shown in the second photo. Like another hopper we sold some months ago, this hopper was very nicely assembled in October of 1949 by John Derr, a well know O scale modeler here in the Philly area. Additionally, this car was painted and hand lettered by another O scale great of the era, George Stock. (I know his lettering style well. I have 7 HO hoppers he hand lettered.) Finally, a little hunk of paper stuck to the bottom of the car says "Crowther" and that is the person for whom the car was built and painted, Ralph Crowther, was a friend of my dad's. All that my not mean much to most, but if you are from the Philly area, and particularly if you know of the now long gone Philadelphia Society of Model Engineers, this car might be a real treasure since that club is where all of the people named above belonged and they pioneers in scale modelling.
