is a rare opportunity to purchase a genuine, vintage Railroad Hat, in new, unused condition!

A Genuine, Made In USA, Big Smith Brand, Railroad Hat! Size Ex-Large 7 1/2

These were probably manufactured in the late 1940's, or early 1950's, according to the Union made tag, with a patent date of 1949! Several boxes of a dozen hats each, were discovered in the loft of an old, closed hardware store, in Kansas City, Missouri, a big railroad town, in its day. The hats were all new, in sealed boxes, stored in a dry area, with no damp or mildew smells. Hats are in perfect, as new, condition! No defects!

Two years ago, I auctioned a couple dozen of these hats, in smaller sizes, on eBay and sold all of them. Many ebayers emailed me, asking if I had larger sizes available, which I did, but was saving them for myself and my vintage railroading friends, w we actually portray railroaders of a bygone era, and operate vintage steam locomotives, hauling passengers in vintage heavyweight passenger cars, and sometimes freight cars. Several of my friends, such as Conductor Fred, and most of the crew of the Michigan Steam Railroad Institute, in Oswego, Michigan, are using these "Big Smith Railroad Hats"! This is the famous crew of the former, Perre Marquette, # 1225, the big Berkshire, Steam Locomotive, which was the prototype for the book and the Disney movie, The Polar Express! * (tm) Conductor Fred, rides the caboose when P. M. 1225, pulls a load of freight cars. If you are in the area, stop by and see these nice folks, and take a ride on The North Pole Express!

These Big Smith Hats, are 100% genuine, coarse woven, cotton canvas, with a herringbone, dark gray - light gray pattern, made by Union workers, in the USA! As can be seen in the photos, the crowns stand tall and proud, and do not droop like the newer, cheap imitation hats. You may also notice that the back of the hat is full, with no stupid plastic adjustment band, or worse yet, a dumb elastic band, to make it a one size fits all. NO, this is a true sized hat, not a clown hat! The bills are also oversize, which kept hot cinders out of the eyes of the engineers, or firemen, trainmen, and conductors. T are two brass vents on each side, as well. These hats were designed to be functional.

Okay, in the spirit of the Season, I'm offering only three of the larger sized hats, to my eBay friends. This one is a size Ex-Large, 7 1/2. If you check my other auctions, you will find another Large size, 7 3/8. This auction and the other auctions, are for one (1) hat only.

Shipping is by: Priority Mail, and is only $6.00, with Delivery Confirmation. Sent carefully packaged, in a box, so as not to wrinkle or crush the hat. Insurance is optional, at $1.50.

Please bid with confidence, as I have over 480, 100% positive feedbacks, and have been a seller for over 5 years!
