Rare early Western lot of four stereographs related to the building of track through the Rocky Mountains and "Across the Continent West from Omaha." First two cards are numbers 111 and 531: "Dale Creek Bridge UPRR" and "On Great Trestle Promontory" (w the East finally met the West) in the 'Rocky Mountains' series published by O.C. Smith of Brooklyn, NY. Number 531 shows an engine proudly displayed on the trestle (very clear image.) Number 111 shows many people on the bridge (also clear.) The other two images are: #411 (penned in) "Devils Gate Bridge from below." This has to be a rare one, as not listed in series. I would guess penned in on verso by the photographer, "A.J.Russell (& Co.) 390 Bowery, NY." From the series "Union Pacific R.(R) Stereoscopic Views." From the series "No.10. Devil's Gate." Fourth image shown is,"No.407, Train on Devils Gate Bridge," published by O.C.Smith." Shows several passenger cars on the trestle with a flatcar full of people. Looks like bridge was just completed with lumber below bridge and probably men celebrating the first pass on the trestle. Both of these are also very clear images. Four rare images in lot, identified and historical, Early West, railroad, engine, construction, circa 1869 (Promontory) to early 1870s.
