Pair of georgian brass 3 light wall sconces.
18th century (or early 19th century at the latest). Georgian period. Elegant zoomorphic candlearms. Scrolled candle branches with stylised birds and punched "eyes". Solid cast brass candlebranches. Turned candle holders. The drip pans are spun brass and line engraved. The candle arms slot into holes in each stem. Two out of the three holes in each stem are stamped with a number of dots. This number corresponds with the number of stamped dots on each candle arm. The arms are then secured within the holes by brass pegs. This is considered to be an early and desirable form of construction. The turned candlesockets screw into holes in the end of each candle arm. The drip pans are held in place between the candleholder and the arm. Each sconce deconstructs into 10 elements and 3 pegs. It is notoriously difficult to find sympathetic lighting for georgian houses. Period lighting is highly sought after and collectable. Dimensions: Height: 13 inches, 33 cms Span of the arms: 12 1/4 inches, 31 cms Condition: Very good condition. Minor wear to the inside of some of the holes in the stem. Does not detract (in my opinion). No damage or restoration. No breaks. No solder. Not drilled! These candlesconces have been professionally polished at some point in their lives. All elements are original except, perhaps, the brass pegs which may be replacements (they usually are). TERMS: I will ship abroad. I charge no more than the actual cost of postage using a fully tracked service + £3 towards the cost of packing. Combine shipping discounts are available. Due to the volume of requests, I regret that I am unable to provide shipping quotes to particular foreign destinations in advance. I try to describe my items accurately and fairly. Please examine the photographs carefully and ask questions if you are uncertain about any aspect of the listing. Please see my other auctions from my collectionof 17 th and 18 th century objects.
