This folded letter has a rather poor strike of a Raleigh NC CDS, but I don't think that's what will draw most of you to it. The letter was written and signed by J. (John) H. (Heritage) Bryan, 1798-1870, who was a state senator between 1823-4 and US Congressman from 1825-9. It was written to his father and contains many details about the 1852 election of William Horn Battle to the North Carolina Supreme Court, which it appears that Bryan was a nominee for too. There are a couple of other tidbits of political insider information also. I hope you'll forgive me, but if you want to know more of the transcript of the letter, you will have to be the successful bidder. You'll have to work at reading it, I sure had to, but I think you'll find it worth the effort. The cover is complete, has very little soiling and virtually no wear. If it were not for the postmark tieing this stamp so clearly, I would have to say it was a replacement, or the dateline of the letter was wrong. The contents of the letter prove the dateline, so this is an unusual stamp for 1852. The stamp is just cut in on the lower left, but has ample to large margins elsewhere. It is sulfurized, so the color could be brownish carmine, but it must be from an exceptionally dry printing. I plated the stamp as 42R1L, but the impression is really terrible, just like the 1854-5 printings, just before the plate was taken out of service. The stamp has a vertical pre-printing paper fold and there may be a crease running right up the right edge of the stamp from the bend in the cover's right edge that's visible in the photo, but I think it only rounded the edge up, instead of creasing it. This cover is a VERY unusual item. MULTIPLE SHIPPING POLICY: It's only 25 cents extra for each additional lot. If you might like to take advantage of this savings, please contact me and I'll send you the details that I don't like to clutter up my lots with. Thankyou to all my bidders and good luck.“ International Buyers – Please Note: Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying.” Italian Buyers: registration + insurance required by your customs $12 + insurance extra, Sorry
