Randall Model 3 "Hunter" with a 6" blade of 1/4" Swedish 01 tool steel stock with a 4 1/2"-3/4" stacked leather handle, brass half hilt and the Duralumin butt cap with an exposed tang nut. An ideal all-around heavy-duty Sportsman's knife. Scientifically designed for every outdoor use and Randall's most popular sporting model.
The knife has had carry and light use but remains in a very good to excellent condition. The blade is smooth, minutely speckled in some areas, no apparent rust or pitting and has been expertly sharpened, if in fact it has been sharpened. The gray Crystolon two part Norton stone shows very light use, possibly used on another knife. The brown button snap on the stone pocket has been replaced sometime along the way due to carry. The knife was last owned by an Army infantryman, but he didn't claim to have used it in Vietnam during his 1969-70 tour of duty. The hold-in strap snap is still the original brown button. The H. H. Heiser sheath is tight and supple, shows its age and knife carry, but it's still in excellent condition. This late 50's to early 60's knife, sheath and stone are collectors' grade in my opinion. The spacers on a leather handle in those days were all medium and dull red, black and white as shown in the photos. 1959 to 1962 would be my guess of the year of its birth.
