This is a very rarely seen Stoddard's Special Sergeant's Model made by Randall. In 1991 Steve Weinograd, assistant manager of Stoddard's, and Tim Leival, also an employee, worked on the original design of the "Stoddard's Special," which was submitted to Gary Randall. At that time, Tim was a reserve Lieutenant in the 11th Special Forces Group based at Fort Devons. It was their goal to come up with a design which would make a Carry Knife, that would fill the needs of the noncommissioned officer in our Armed Forces. Besides actually providing a knife that would do the job, they also wanted to honor the personnel so vital to the continuing success of our Military, the Non-Commissioned Officers Corps. This effort resulted in the knife which has come to be known as "Stoddard's Sergeant's Model". There are only 180 of these knives that were made. This Knife is Stamped Stoddard's, Inc./ Boston, MA-SN. 166 on the blade on the opposite side is the Randall Logo. The serial number on this knife is # 166 and the Custom Made Belt Buckle has the same Number engraved onto it. The Randall Knife Shop worked up the prototype on the basis of the Bushmaster Blade. This is a wide, heavy duty type blade designed to be a big game skinning Knife. As the Orignal design made it's way through the prototype stage it evolved into a 5 1/2 " Blade with a 1 1/2 " wide, 1/4 ' thick 01 Swedish tool steel. The upper blade was left unsharpened due to a section of the Massachusetts law concerning double edged knives. The resulting Blade looks more like the # 25 Trapper Model, than a Bushmaster due to the slightly clipped point and the large flat grind. To go along with the useful tool aspect of this Model is the Single Hilt and the Single Finger Grip Handle. Stoddard's is the oldest Cutlery firm in the U.S. and in 2000 they created a custom belt buckle to Commemorate their Special design. The result was a series of handmade belt buckles approved by Randall featuring their Dealer protected Sergeant's Special Knife. Each Buckle is polished Silver With Gold colored accents and each one is engraved with the serial number of the corresponding knife on the back of the buckle. This buckle has engraved # 166 on the back of the buckle, it also states that this buckle is # 11 out of 100 Buckles to be made. You can see by the photos, that on the right side of the large Stoddard's box a piece of the box paper has been pulled away, otherwise they are all in excellent shape, they are the original Boxes and Tissue Paper that came with the order. The belt buckle also has tarnished a little as you can see in the photos. I imagine that if you send the buckle back to Stoddard's that they could polish it for you. Shipping and handling and insurance will be $18.00 in the U.S.A.. All other bidders please contact the seller to find out how much the shipping cost will be from your location. You must be at 18 years old to purchase this knife.
