This item re-listed with a LOWER RESERVE! ONE OF A KIND! I have been collecting Randall knives for over 20 years. I have never seen a more flawless and wonderfully crafted knife than what comes out of the Randall factory and have never known them to make a mistake until now. I found this knife at an estate auction of a local horse and dog doctor out in west Texas. I spoke with the daughter who told me the history of this fine old knife. It was a 20th wedding anniversery gift to the fine doctor from his wife in 1968. It is a model 3 hunter with a 6" blade. It is stainless with the seperate S correct for the period. It has a finger groove right hand stag handle. T are no chips or cracks. It has a nickel silver guard and a durilium butt cap with an original leather thong. The knife is engraved on the right side with the doctors name, Fred G. Hook. Yes, I know, the infamous Dr. Hook. The sheath is a Johnson roughback also correct for the period. To look at the sheath you would guess that it had never been carried. Close, according to the daughter her dad only took this on a couple of mule deer hunts to New Mexico. He did use it to clean his kill but never wore the knife on his hip. The blade does show some use. T are some light buff marks and some very slight scratches mostly on the left side. It still retains it's factory edge and has no pitting or staining of any kind. The sharpening stone is the gray two part/color factory stone also correct for the period. NOW FOR THE FUN PART.....THE SEVEN SPACER BANDS AT THE FORWARD PART OF THE HANDLE HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED OUT OF ORDER. Yes, it is a 7 spacer, also correct for the period. The order of the spacers from the blade side reading left to right toward the butt end are: Thick red, thin white, thin red, Thick BLUE center spacer, THICK RED, thin white, thin red. It's obvious that the last 3 spacers were stacked out of order. Coming from the Thick Blue Center, the remaing spacers should have been THIN RED, thin white, and finally Thick red to mirror the other side. Like I said, in over 20 years of collecting Randall knives I have never seen them let one go from the factory that was'nt perfect. A great knife with a wonderful history. Something old Bo should have caught but I'm glad they did'nt. Reserve will not be much higher than if this was just a factory correct "run of the mill" 1968 stag 7 spacer. Please ask questions and thanks for your interest. This auction will run the full 7 days and shipping insurance will be required. For sale locally, reserving the right to end early if it sells.
