You are bidding on a WHAT I BELIEVE IS A VERY SCARCE, AND BELIEVE EARLY (POST 1942 ERA) advertising "wooden nickel" once used at business (long gone) called " TWO FINGERED JACKS, FRONTIER STORE AND OPERA HOUSE 1895 - 1942 " , in historic mining town of RANDSBURG CALIFORNIA. Being very honest…I typically NEVER put old wooden nickels on ebay…..most of them go in a box or given away….BUT…GIVEN HOW TOUGH IT IS TO FIND ANYTHING FROM "RANDSBURG" CALIFORNIA…DECIDED TO PUT THIS ON. BELIEVE IT IS OLDER (not an expert, but older style Indian pictorial) AND ISSUED FOR A BUSINESS WHICH NO LONGER EXISTS. (dates seem to indicate this business operated 1895-1942…not sure) I collect tokens from this region…anything which says "RANDSBURG" is flat out tough to find…so I believe this is a really good wooden nickel. The historic town of Randsburg is a mining camp in the southern california desert region, goes back to 1890s with famed "Yellow Aster Mine"…located not far from Red Mountain, Johannesburg, Atolia and Ridgecrest California Merchant advertising wooden nickel is typical round, wood, about 38mm (size of dollar), and it displays nicely. (please see pictures in gallery) No cracks, damage, just natural aging Gallery pictures should show you all you need to know. (took picture next to silver dollar to show scale, coin not included in auction) read more
