Rare, signed, Art Nouveau postcard by Raphael Kirchner from his "Les Cigarettes Du Monde" series - this one being No. II (2) "A'ALA". Unfortunately, the card has no markings so I am unable to establish the publisher involved but the card was posted (from one address in Stockholm to another) on 27th February 1902. The face of the postcard carries the image of a young, middle-eastern, woman sitting cross-legged on a carpet and smoking the eponymous cigarette. She wears the loose, colourful, clothes of the middle-east and a light veil upon her head. The card is signed by Kirchner and carries it's title, in gold lettering, in a green border printed to the right of the woman's image. U nfortunately, the card's condition can only be described as 'Poor'. This is because the card has a large crease/fold across it's width (about 2/3 res of the way down) and a small, repaired, tear in it's centre (top right of pictured carpet) - see photographs. One of the card's corners (bottom right) has a slight crease too. Consequently, although rare, this card is offered at a basic price and I shall let it find it's proper level of value during this auction. This is an old postcard which will prove of interest to collectors of Kirchner's work despite it's poor condition. I am a collector and not a dealer. I am selling because I have too much in the
