RARE 1787 English Georgian Sterling Silver Tea Caddy is a Museum Quality Antique Georgian Sterling Silver Tea Caddy from London England in Stunning Condition! This is one of the finest Georgian Tea Caddies we have ever come across. It is fully hallmarked on the bottom with the Lion Passant for English Sterling Silver, the King George III Duty Mark, the Crowned Leopards Head for London, the Date letter for 1787 and the Makers Mark of A.F over S.G. This is the touch mark for Andrew Fogelberg and Stephen Gilbert who formed a partnership in London in 1780.Andrew Fogelberg is listed as an 'important British silversmith' - one who stands out 'as being responsible for a consistently high standard of design, execution and decoration.'Fogelberg (1732-1793) came from Sweden and was probably already trained when he arrived in London ca. 1770. He formed a partnership with Stephen Gilbert from 1780-93 and is especially well-known for pieces in the neo-classical style. PAUL STORR was apprenticed to Fogelberg and Paul Storr is considered perhaps the most famous of early 19th century silversmiths. It was Fogelberg that trained him!This Truly Wonderful 1787 Sterling Silver Tea Caddy is Stunning in person. It has the most superbly executed blind hinge that can not be seen until the lid is opened! The lid has an attached hinged bail finial that can lay flat onto the surface of the lid. It is eight sided in form and has a very beautiful hand engraved bright cut banded decoration around the top and bottom edges, and has the same decoration around the outer edge of the hinged lid. On the lid it also has an wonderful hand engraved oval medallion area surrounding the bail finial. On the front of this spectacular tea Caddy is a Superbly Executed Coat of Arms expertly engraved in the center of the panel.You will not find a finer example anyw! It is often said that if you are going to collect something, it is best to get the finest example available rather than many of lesser quality. Well, it is! This has to be one of the finest available! Do not miss out on adding this to your collection!It measures 5 1/4" by 3 1/4" and sits 5" tall with the bail finial extended.
