Rare 1800s Masonic Freemason Secretary Desk Bookcase
I am pleased to offer one of those items that comes along only for a brief time. It is an estate find hand made Freemason secretary bookcase that dates to the late 1800's during the Victorian period. It came out of an estate in which the grandson told me his grandfather was some sort of high ranking official in the Masonic Order and this was in his house and was built by a member of the family. The piece is very handsome and has its original pantina, and I would say that the primary wood is pine or hemlock with a secondary of walnut. It measures 68" tall by 38 1/2" across the front by 14" deep. The header on top is very fancy with many cut flames and you can tell it was hand cut with slight imperfections. The bookcase portion is on the left hand side with a total of 5 shelves and the outside of the door has some nice fret work on the top left and right. The right hand side has a wonderful configuration which includes two drawers on the top that each measure 4 1/2" by 16" and then the next opening is the drop front desk which has the hand cut Mason symbol on the outside and then finally another door which is paneled for storage on the bottom. The opening for the front measures 18 1/4" by 16" and the bottom drawer measures 24" by 16". I have included pictures of the feet and rim so that you can see the nice cuts near the floor and the original key with tassle is still with the piece. I must say that even if you are not a Mason, this is a great man's piece of furniture and would look great in a den or study, but if you have a family member or you are a Mason: well, this piece would be a must have.
