Lovely Rare 1840 Australian Colonial Cedar Framed Mahogany Box This Rare 1840 Australian Colonial Cedar Framed Mahogany Box is as rare a piece of Australian timberwork as you will find. Of Germanic influence, probably made in South Australia this cedar framed box is perfect for the restorer. With only 10% beading missing from the top and 30% missing from the bottom the restoration process would be simple. The veneer is in excellent condition and t are only a couple of tiny pieces missing. Originally t were three applied pewter pieces to the lid, one is missing now. The original early brass hinges are still present and only missing 5 screws or pins to attach them to the box. The serpantine shape is wonderful and it looks like a tea caddy from the outside but t are no signs of compartments to the interior but that is not to say that once t was a lift out interior.
