HERIZ District is a collection of villages in the close proximity of Tabriz in northwestern Iran. The district lies close to the magnificent Sabalan Peak at the southern tip of Caucasian mountains. The old Serapi carpets from Heriz are noted for their bold designs, thick wool and low KSPI. The Heriz rugs without doubt are one of the most remarkable group of Persian rugs. Heriz rugs are very durable due to use of strong wool, thick pile and compact weave. The wool is lustrous, push and very strong. The dyestuffs mostly are vegetable based which results in beautiful and clear shades. The powerful medallion and bold tribal geometrics pluck the primal chord in u s all which explains their great popularity and the fact that they pull together any decorating plan from the most classic to the most eclectic. Offered is a genuine antique Persian Serapi Heriz from Iran circa 1890. E xact size of 8'1" x 11'0" makes it a perfect for any decorating plan. A rug with strong construction, clear knot quality and wonderful even pile (some moth damage in the border, some foundation shown in pictures) . 100% wool pile on cotton foundation. This rug is very supple and has beautiful luster. The happy and warm colors are well balanced and harmonic throughout, especially the bold ivory medallion and ivory corners.
