Very unusual diary from C. A. Detrick a soldier in Company D 28th Infantry. Signed several times CA Detrick Lemont Furnace Fayette County Pennsylvania given at Zapoti Bridge Dec 16 1899. Given by his friend. 'If anything should happen or I should loose this Book please notify CF Inks CA Detrick Co D 28 Inf Manila P.I. Almost daily entries from 12/17/99 through 2/1/1900. Unresearched. Entries in pencil. Some battle content. Talks about a battle fought on January 6/7 with the 38 infantry and an artillery unit. Members of his company signed in ink on several pages their home addresses for correspondence after the war. A very nice poem he wrote of the 28th in a battle. He also translated an alphabet, looks like Chinese probably Phillipino. Great rare diary from the Spanish American War period. Email questions. Shipping included in price. Thanks for looking!
