This style of Dutch tobacco box is usually found in brass and dating from the mid 18th century. I personally have not seen one like this before. The top and bottom made of copper with brass let into it and then engraved with the story of Joseph and his technicolor coat. Around the sides of brass additional images of possibly saints as they are all titled. The quality of the engraving on the top and bottom is good, the sides not as fine one would say sketchy. Boxes of this form but without the inlay are illustrated in Peter, Nancy and Herbert Schiffer page 115-117. Length 6 3/4 inch width 1 3/4 and deph 1 3/8 inch. Condition, the engraving is good not worn at all. Some soldiered repairs to splitting at each end and along edge as can be seen on the inside only. T is also a clip fitted on the inside possibly to hold a small pipe.
