We are offering for auction a one of a kind collection of nine personal photographs taken during the 1901 Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, NY. While items from the 1901 Pan American Exposition do surface with regularity on Ebay it is nearly impossible to find original photographic images taken at the Exposition. This is an extremely rare opportunity for the avid collector to obtain one of a kind items from this historical celebration of ingenuity and technology.
The nine black and white photographs are all 4 3/4 inches tall and just over 3 1/2 inches wide. All of the photographs have been matted on backings that measure 6 3/8 inches tall by 5 1/4 inches wide.
The first photograph is of the exterior of the Ethnology building.
The second photograph is of Frank C. Bostock's polar bear pulling a cart with a brown bear riding in it. This photograph was taken during a parade at the Exposition. The polar is being led along the parade route on a lead. The man holding the lead looks to be the famous animal trainer Frank C. Bostock himself. It is hard to tell for sure, but the trainer is wearing the same type of uniform and trade mark hat that Bostock is known to wear.
The third photograph is of 30 plus Indians in head dresses riding their horses. This photograph was also taken during a parade at the Exposition. Some of the Indians are carrying totems with flags.
The fourth photograph is an action photograph taken during one of the many canoe races on the Grand Canal at the Exposition.
The fifth photograph is of the Horse Diving platform on the grounds of the Exposition. In the background the tops of tepees can be seen. One of the great things about the 1901 Exposition was the celebration of of the use electricity in the
greater Niagara and Buffalo area. The diving platform shows this in the detail that t are very large electric powered lights to illuminate night time diving.
The sixth photograph is of two horses being led away from the Horse Diving platform. The horses are covered in blankets to keep them warm following their performance. The fifth and sixth photographs were taken in succession, but at varying distances.
The seventh photograph is of the interior of the Temple of music. Though the Temple of music was a celebrated achievement of the 1901 Exposition, it became a scene of infamy following the assassination of President McKinley. This photograph is damaged w it was bent in half causing a crease in the matting and damage to the photograph.
The eighth photograph is of a black man in a uniform of some sort. The man is sitting in a chair and is posing for the photograph. This photograph has a darkening from its age.
The ninth photograph is of four men sitting on the porch of a house in Buffalo on May 3rd. The bottom of left corner of the matting is damaged and the photograph has 2 marks at the top from ink.
Considering the fact that the photographs are over 100 years old they are in good condition. T are multiple scans so that bidders can see these one of a kind historical photographs.
