Gorham's headquarters are now in Laurenceville NJ, its design and manufacturing facilities are in Smithfield RI. Purchased by Brown Forman which also owns Lenox....Dansk, Kirk-Steff, and Gorham are now part of the Lenox division. Not original to the set, but included, are the eight boullion or small round soup spoons; these are stamped Gorham Sterling. All other pieces are Pat. 1902 with old Whiting hallmarks of the letter W in a circle, Griffin, Sterling, and RD 1901. Monogram has been removed, leaving a great place for your initial, if you choose. All pieces are in excellent and exceptional condition for 105 year old silver. One of the small round soup spoons has a deeper-than-surface scratch which could be buffed out. Otherwise, t is only light, age-appropriate wear, if any.The place-setting includes a knife, fork, teaspoon, boullion soup spoon, demitasse spoon, oyster or cocktail fork, and ice cream fork (which begs the question, when did people think they should eat ice cream with a fork? And why? These babies have sharp points, and you're aiming them at a semi-frozen, partially numb tongue. This may not be a selling point, but we don't get it. Should you win this set, we suggest putting them out -- they look great -- but use the teaspoon for ice cream instead!)Whiting's Lily is the Rolls Royce of antique Art Nouveau sterling silver flatware, and almost as scarce. This set includes not only the service for 8 with 7 pieces to the place-setting (a pretty impressive sight), but many really hard to find serving pieces; the lettuce fork, olive fork, salad fork (may be used for cold/luncheon meat), fork to a carving set, cake/pie server, cream gravy ladle, sugar shell, and sugar sifter shell, plus 6 gumbo soup spoons, and 7 other spoons. This is a pretty massive set, with a total weight of 7 1/2 pounds (120 ounces, 109.375 Troy ounces). We think this is a rare opportunity to own a rare and exquisite set of sterling silver flatware. You know our advice -- BID NOW, BID HIGH -- we want you to want it, we want you to have it, AND we want you to pay a lot for it!!!
